Hello I have a 3.5 year old who I tried to get evaluated at my local school. But because he shuts down when asked to preform a duty…they were unable to preform the test. They want him in preschool I don’t want that. I was hoping you could give me some information on the programs you would recommend or offer. Thank you .

    Good morning, Michelle,
Thank you for your question. Young children are pretty savvy about whether or not they will engage with a stranger..especially if the stranger is asking for responses to their questions. I have found that establishing a social connection with my clients , at any age, gives both of us information about the other – it gives the child the “okay” about me and it gives me an idea of what the child likes so I can establish a relationship where we both have something in common within a short period of time. Puppets, toys, favorite snacks, pictures and live pets are the most successful ‘starters’. Sometimes I see the child for only 10-15 minutes for a ‘fun’ session while I gather data on what I observe and leave them with a positive experience so the next time we start off already having known each other for a bit.

I hope this helps you. It would be beneficial for me to know what your concerns are regarding your son. Is it sound production? Understanding language? Expressing language? Stuttering? Was speech therapy recommended by his pediatrician? If you would like to continue our discussion, please feel free to contact the office: 860-455-1334.

I look forward to hearing from you!
